Tangled, Dry Hair Extensions? Give It Life in 5 Easy Steps
Here’s how to bring your hair extensions back to life:
- Detangle
A wide tooth comb will help you start your first step. Detangle your hair extensions using a wide-toothed comb. Why should you use a wide toothed comb? Well, it is as simple as to avoid the breakage of the hair especially when it is wet.
Close tooth combs tend to collect a lot of hair and squeeze them up in between the small spaced two teeth, which apply a lot of friction to the nose, and also rub them together, and this breaks merely your hair. We are into making the hair healthier. Therefore, we avoid any other thing that may cause hair loss.
Before you detangle the hair, add a little water and conditioner, which will ease your work, as the conditioner, together with the water, will soften the hair, making it easy for the comb through. When detangling, start from the ends, going down wards to the roots.
Do not insist on any knot that seems stubborn as it might break the hair. Instead, you can use your fingers to loosen the knot, and then continue detangling slowly.
- Deep Condition
Once your hair is free from tangles, you may now go ahead and deep condition it. This is a significant step in this process and should be done with a lot of concentration. This step will help you bring your hair back to excellent condition.
In this step, the hair cuticles are opened up, which in turn helps the products to penetrate, leaving your hair very soft, and with a shiny appearance. To ensure that the conditioner reaches each corner of the hair, you can distribute it using the wide-toothed comb.
The conditioner must saturate and reach each of the strands of the hair, and give them the soft feel that they need.
- Shampoo
When it come s to your weaves and extensions, you need to be very keen. This is because; they are not able to get the natural oils from your scalp, which your natural hair gets. To ensure that you keep them healthy, therefore, you have to shampoo them if not once then twice every week, to ensure that they stay fit. When shampooing the hair, make sure that you use the shampoos that are sulfate free, and mild, organic ones, with some lukewarm water. Do not use hot water on your hair extensions.
Try to not rub or scrub the shampoo into your hair extensions, it’s important to avoid any frictions that may cause breakages.
- Drying
Any form of heat should never be used to dry off your hair unless you are styling it. Hair that dries naturally tends to be healthier as compared to the blow-dried ones. Heat has its own many effects on your Brazilian hair that you should avoid in any way possible.
Do not even towel dry your hair, the air in the atmosphere Is enough to dry your hair naturally and healthily. On the other hand, if you think you have to blow dry your hairs, make sure you use a shallow temperature of heat, and start with the wefts, moving towards the ends. Too much heat will only dry up your hair, and loosen the bonds.
- Leave In Treatment
Just as your real hair, extensions, and weaves also need the leave-in treatment, conditioner after shampooing them. Using your fingers, apply conditioner to your hair and massage it well. Another tip is that, in between the shampooing processes, you can always add some conditioner a dry weave or extension, to freshen it up.
Oils will add weight to the hair, and cause it to tangle and matt, so avoid them as much as possible.
- Sleeping
This is another challenge of hair care in women. Sometimes, you may be tempted to sleep with a wet hair extension, which is entirely wrong, and it will encourage the tangling. Instead, always wrap your head scarf to bed, and if it is a wig, get it off, and place it on a mannequin’s head. Again, NEVER SLEEP IN WET HAIR EXTENSIONS!
The Bottom Line
It is normal for some hair extensions to tangle, maybe because of the product applied or other things. Whatever the cause is, the above procedure will help you out to freshen up, and avoid tangling of your hair extensions.
